Three Random Tips And One Irrelevant Photo

Life threw me a curve ball this week, so this post is just three random tips and one irrelevant photo. That’s what happens when you planned for something that takes more time than you have at the moment.

Random Tip #1

Guess what?  My Pinterest account got hacked yesterday. I’m not the only one, either.  Here’s how my profile looked once they got done changing my info.

I’m not sure if I’m more offended that I was hacked or that they made people think I was a French landscaper.  The nerve.

This hack didn’t just happen to me, but also to some other folks I know. So my first random tip is to go change your password. Not just on Pinterest, but on anything you have that hasn’t been changed in a while. Change any passwords that are the same as your other accounts.  If you do get hacked, at least they won’t have the keys to everything if the passwords are different.

I use a program called 1Password.  It works on Mac, Windows and iOS. You can use it to generate complex passwords that it stores and provides to web sites when you need them.  Hell, I don’t even know half of my own passwords.  That’s probably a good thing.

Random Tip #2

I’m really enjoying the site Exposure.so ever since I first learned of it from Scott Kelby, and so are many others.  Parallax sites have been around for a few years, but many WordPress theme providers limit your ability to use them in the same way as Exposure.so. What happens if you want to get this kind of page on your own WordPress site?

Fortunately, Elegant Themes has a versatile new theme called Divi. Not only can you use it to build as many parallax pages as you want, allowing you to create a story-telling page on your own site, but you can build your own blog with many of its features. Instead of being limited to a hard-coded theme, Divi works like a drag-and-drop site builder. I think I’ll switch over to it in the coming months.

Not feeling creative? Don’t worry, Divi comes with some pre-made templates to get you started.

Random Tip #3

Don’t lick a sledge hammer in Home Depot. Miley Cyrus does it in a video and it’s art, but people just think you’re creepy if you do it in the neighborhood hardware store.

This is clearly an area of moral ambiguity.

One Irrelevant Photo

Welcome to Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama. I have no idea who they are or where they found the dinosaurs, but I have a weakness for carnival scenes at night.  As promised, this photograph bears no relevancy to the previous random tips.
